Speaking & Media

I'd rather talk with your group than at them.

30 years of teaching means I know the difference between a talk people applaud and a talk people actually take home.

What I speak on

For churches and women's ministry

  • Discipling your kids in the ordinary week, built from Deuteronomy 6
  • When faith feels harder than it looks: honesty about the seasons nobody posts about
  • Raising kids who ask hard questions, and what to do when you don't have the answer

For homeschool groups and co-ops

  • Using books as the doorway to discipleship
  • Teaching kids to write, and why critique matters more than praise
  • Building a family reading life that survives a busy season

For writers conferences

  • Writing for children without talking down to them
  • The publishing paths, honestly compared
  • Finishing the manuscript you keep starting

For mixed needs and special needs ministry

  • What a mixed needs family is and why nothing is written for them
  • Supporting families raising neurotypical and neurodivergent kids together
  • Making children's ministry work for the kid it currently doesn't work for

Short bio

Terrie Hellard-Brown is the author of 17 books for children and families, the founder of Hypurpley Publishing, and the host of 2 podcasts, including the Selah Award winning Sparking Everyday Discipleship. A former teacher and missionary in Taiwan, she writes and speaks about family discipleship, raising neurotypical and neurodivergent kids together, and putting books worth reading into children's hands.

Long bio

Terrie Hellard-Brown has spent 30 years in classrooms, on the mission field, and in her own living room working out the same question: how do you raise kids who genuinely love Jesus rather than kids who just know the right answers?

She is the author of 17 books, including picture books, chapter books, family devotionals, and Bible studies for middle grade readers. Her podcast Sparking Everyday Discipleship has been running since 2019 and took home a bronze Selah Award. Her second podcast, Mixed Needs Mama, grew out of her own family's experience raising both neurotypical and neurodivergent children, and out of the realization that almost nothing had been written for houses like hers.

Through Hypurpley Publishing, Terrie coaches authors, teaches homeschool teens to write, and publishes children's books that respect the reader's intelligence. She served as a missionary in Taiwan, taught in classrooms for years, and remains convinced that the most important conversations happen in the car rather than at a scheduled devotional time.
