Publishing Services

Publishing a book well is not the same as publishing a book fast.

There's a whole industry set up to take your money and hand you a finished product that nobody buys and no bookstore will stock. I'd rather tell you what your book actually needs, even when that's slower and less flattering.

What Hypurpley publishes

  • Children's picture books with real craft behind them
  • Middle grade and chapter books with actual stakes
  • Family devotionals and Bible studies that respect the reader's intelligence
  • Discipleship resources for homes, churches, and co-ops

What I don't publish

Being clear about this saves us both time.

  • Manuscripts that aren't ready, though I'll tell you what would get them there
  • Books that talk down to children
  • Anything where “Christian” is doing the work that “good writing” should be doing
  • Political content
  • Anything I couldn't put in front of a kid I love

Services

Editorial

Developmental editing, line editing, and proofreading. The kind of feedback that names the actual problem instead of gesturing at it.

Design

Interior layout and cover design built for the format. A picture book, a board book, and a Bible study each have completely different requirements, and a designer who doesn't know that will cost you.

Production

Files, formats, specs, distribution setup. The technical layer where most self-publishing authors lose weeks and money.

Launch Support

What to do in the 90 days around release. Most books are lost here, not in the writing.

The process

  1. 1

Inquiry. You tell me about the project.

  2. 2

Manuscript review. I read it and tell you honestly where it stands.

  3. 3

The plan. What it needs, what it costs, how long it takes. In writing, no surprises.

  4. 4

Editorial. We make the book better before we make it pretty.

  5. 5

Design and production. Cover, interior, files, formats.

  6. 6

    Launch. Getting it into hands.

How pricing works

Pricing varies, and I won't pretend otherwise with a number that would be wrong for most projects. A 32-page picture book with illustration needs and a 200-page Bible study are genuinely different jobs.

What determines cost: length, format, illustration needs, how much editorial work the manuscript requires, and which services you want.

What you'll get: a written quote after I've read the manuscript, with everything itemized. You'll know what you're paying for before you commit to anything.

FAQ

Who owns the rights?

You do. Get that in writing from anyone you work with, not just me.

How long does it take?

Depends heavily on the manuscript's condition and the format. I'll give you a realistic timeline in the plan, and realistic means it accounts for the revision round nobody plans for.

Is this traditional publishing, hybrid, or self-publishing?

Closest to hybrid. You're investing in your book and retaining your rights. I'm not paying you an advance and I'm not going to pretend I have a traditional house's distribution.

Will you publish anything if I pay?

No. If the manuscript isn't ready, I'll tell you what it needs. That's the whole point of the model.

What if I need coaching before I'm ready for this?

Very common, and often the right call.
