Scritchy, Scratchy Socks!

For the kid who cannot wear those socks. Not those ones. Not today. Not ever.

About the Book

If you've never had this fight, this book will seem like a small thing. If you have had this fight, at 7:40am, with everyone already late, you know it is not a small thing at all.

Some kids feel their clothes in a way other kids don't. The seam, the tag, the texture, the wrongness of a particular sock on a particular morning. It isn't defiance and it isn't a phase, and being told to just put them on doesn't make the feeling go away.

This picture book takes that experience seriously and makes it funny at the same time, which is a hard balance and exactly the right one. Kids who feel this way finally see themselves in a story. Kids who don't get a window into a sibling or a classmate who does.

Who It's For

  • Read-aloud ages roughly 3 to 8
  • Families with sensory-sensitive kids
  • Siblings who need to understand what's happening
  • Teachers, therapists, and childcare providers
  • Anyone who has lost a morning to a pair of socks
