October Book Club Picks

Welcome to Fall! It’s time to curl up with some good books and maybe some pumpkin spiced something or other. I’m changing the way we do book club slightly. I will give you four board books and four picture books to read each month, so you have one a week throughout the month. The chapter books, novels, and parenting books will remain at one per month. We have some great books for you this month. I hope you love them and love reading them (and applying them when appropriate). Let us know what you love, or what you didn’t love about these picks.

Fall Board Books

I Love Fall by Alison Inches

Snuggle Time Fall Blessings by Gleny Nellist

I’m a Little Pumpkin by Hannah Eliot

Nature Stories: Little Acorn by Igloo Books

Fall Picture Books

Fall Leaves by Loretta Holland

This book plays with language, has unique pictures throughout the book, and covers quite a bit of science while also bringing the beauty and magic of fall. The play on words throughout the book is clever and thought-provoking at times.

The Very Last Leaf by Stef Wade

This book is about a leaf who does very well at everything except that he is afraid to fall. This book can spark some great conversations about overcoming fear.

The Leaf Thief by Alice Hemming

This is such a cute book and helps us think before we accuse someone of something. Maybe we need to understand more before we jump to conclusions like the squirrel in the story.

The Oak Inside the Acorn by Max Lucado

This is a longer picture book suitable for a read-aloud with younger children or for older elementary/middle school to read on their own. It’s a beautiful story about God’s plan and purpose for each of us.

Novels and Parenting Books:

Mystery at Indian Point by C. P. Landry

Not technically a fall book, but a great novel for young readers. Character-driven, family-friendly, and full of fun and adventure. The book description says for ages 8-18. I have enjoyed these books at my slightly older age than 18 too. Their website has activity pages to use with the books.

The Prayer Saturated Family by Cheryl Sacks

This is a book for parents about prayer and praying together with our families. It’s a new must-read.
